Response to the Industrial Strategy Green Paper
The government recently published its industrial strategy green paper, outlining its vision for ‘a stronger, fairer Britain that works for everyone’. The Centre for Progressive Capitalism welcomes the government’s ambition to improve living standards and economic growth displayed in the paper.
The strategy is extremely broad in scope, which is to be commended. However, to address the true underlying constraints on generating inclusive growth will require a great deal more focus and detail from government. In particular, prioritising the development of an effective system of technical education to fill the economy’s persistent skills shortages will be crucial if the modern industrial strategy is to prove a success. As such, the Centre’s submission to the green paper consultation focuses predominantly on this policy area.
